If you need to fix some missing shingles on your roof, before you start the repair job, you need to make sure that you know how to stay when you are up working on your roof. You don't want to injure yourself when you are fixing your roof.

Get the Right Shoes

When working on a roof, wearing the right shows is one of the most important things you can do to protect your safety while you are on your roof. You want to use a pair of shoes that has really good tread and gripe on them. Rubber-soles shoes are often the best shoes to wear when working on your roof. You don't want to wear shoes that will cause you to slip while you are on your roof.

Cover Yourself Up

When you are up on your roof, you want to make sure that you cover your body. Wear a long sleeved shirt and pants that you are okay with getting dirty. You don't want to get distracted because you go some roofing tar on your arm or you nicked yourself on your leg with your hammer.

Protect Yourself

You also want to make sure that you protect yourself. Find a sturdy pair of work gloves that provide your hands with protect and are flexible enough for you to move around and get work done in. Wear a pair of protective eyeglasses that meet with your face to ensure that you don't get anything in your eye when working on your roof.

If you will be using any substances with an odor, get yourself a mask as well. You want to minimize the risk of injury and distraction when you are working on your roof. You also want to protect yourself from any fumes that could make your dizzy.

Get a Safety Harness

Next, you need to invest in a safety harness. A safety harness will go around the core of your body. One end of the safety harness will need to be anchored around some solid wood, such as a rafter or ridge beam. This will help catch you should you fall and ensure that you don't end up injured.

Finally, before you get up on a roof to do some work, make sure someone knows that you are up on your roof who can check in on you. Let someone in your house know, or ask your neighbor to check in on you. That way, if by some chance you were to get injured, you know someone is coming to check on you.
